When Idiots Try to Become Economists

I'm a short, skinny white guy.

That's why I don't try to become an all-star basketball playing, pimping, frisbee-gold wearin', hip-hop-rappin', ghetto-blastin' home boy.

Word up g.

I know my strengths and I know my place.

Leave it to idiots to think they somehow have what it takes (ie-a brain and a positive IQ) to become an economist.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the dumbest, most spoiled brat Americans in the world; The people who drafted this e-mail;

>> September 10th - Gasoline Strike Day
>>
>> IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN THE UNITED STATES DID NOT
>> PURCHASE
>> A DROP OF GASOLINE FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT THE SAME TIME, THE OIL
>> COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES.
>>
>> AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET LOSS OF
>> OVER 4.6
>> BILLION DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE OIL COMPANIES.
>>
>> THEREFORE, Sept 10TH HAS BEEN FORMALLY DECLARED "STICK IT TO THEM
>> DAY" AND
>>
>> THE PEOPLE OF THIS NATION SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLE DROP OF GASOLINE
>> THAT
>> DAY.
>>
>> THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN BE DONE IS IF YOU FORWARD THIS E-MAIL TO AS
>> MANY
>> PEOPLE
>> A S YOU CAN AND AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN TO GET THE WORD OUT.
>>
>> WAITING ON THIS ADMINISTRATION TO STEP IN AND CONTROL THE PRICES IS
>> NOT
>> GOING
>> TO HAPPEN. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REDUCTION AND CONTROL IN PRICES THAT
THE
>> ARAB NATIONS PROMISED TWO WEEKS AGO?
>>
>> REMEMBER ONE THING, NOT ONLY IS THE PRICE OF GASOLINE GOING UP BUT
AT

>> THE SAME TIME AIRLINES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES, TRUCKING
>> COMPANIES ARE
>> FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES WHICH EFFECTS PRICES ON EVERYTHING THAT
IS
>> SHIPPED. THINGS LIKE FOOD, CLOTHING, BUILDING MATERIALS, MEDICAL
>> SUPPLIES
>> ETC. WHO
>> PAYS IN THE END? WE DO!
>>
>> WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. IF THEY DON'T GET THE MESSAGE AFTER ONE
>> DAY, WE WILL DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN.
>>
>> SO DO YOUR PART AND SPREAD THE WORD.
>>
>> PLEASE FORWARD!!!!!

I got a forward the other day saying that we should simply boycott Exxon and Mobil altogether, and that alone would bring prices down.
It included this quote:
"From my business experience, price isn't determined by what the product costs to produce, it is determined by what the market will bear..... and currently our market is bearing $2.50+ per gallon. With no action the cost will only go up. For those of you who were with me in Kuwait, have you seen more Mercedes, Porsches, Ferrari's, BMW's, etc any where else? Not even in LA."

I wrote up a nice educational little response to the girl who sent it to me. I included everything but graphs. I think she was pretty offended.

Electric cars and hybrids woudl certainly bring down the price of oil. What I get a kick out of is how everybody thinks this market is some how fixed. You have the two largest economies in the world growing like mad, you have the rest of the global economy growing at a clip of about 4% a year, OPEC is maxing out on production and then a hurriance hits our freaking oil belt and all the left can do is say

"It's big oil. Let's boycott Shell! Hee hee he he hee!"

What utter fucking morons.

AGain, I will say it, the spoiled brat Americans who dedicated all their brain power to figuring out American Idol have none left to think about the simplicities of a supply and demand curve.

Oh, and Capt. Mike,

Look up the "payment in kisses" rhymes I "laid down" on Capt. Capitalism.

Not rap, but it's the best economic poetry you'll find.

Captain,

even I, a good commie, agree with you here. I remember having it out with someone who thought that Buy Nothing Day was a good thing. He, a typical leftie, was uneducated about any variety of economics. I don't know why people bother with those. As JTapp pointed out, its not what it costs to produce, but rather what the market will bear.

Ahh yes Commie Pete, but you will come around and soon, oh yes, very soon, join us here on the Dark Side of the Force.
